Our hygienists are expert in treating mild to moderate gum disease. They combine techniques using hand tools with ultrasonic scaling to achieve optimum results. As gum disease is one of the top causes of tooth loss, ensuring that it is treated and eliminated is of primary importance.
Using a procedure known as root scaling and planning, our hygienists remove plaque and tartar below the gum line and then smooth the surface of the root to deter bacteria. Our hygienists pay a lot of attention to detail in this process.
Piezo® ultrasonic scaler
Our hygienists use ultrasonic scalers to remove hard mineral deposits, stains and tartar from the surface of your teeth as well as under the gums. These ultrasonic scalers use high frequency sound waves to remove buildup without harming your teeth or causing discomfort. They not only help to make cleanings more comfortable, they also make them much faster.
Eliminating bacteria that causes gum disease
Arestin is often used to help eliminate the bacteria that may have collected in the infected gums pockets. This prescription antibiotic is placed directly in the deep pockets and time releases over a period of days. As your gums heal, they gums will shrink and tighten up around the tooth.
Dr. Kardaris also performs laser gum disease treatment for more severe cases of periodontal disease.
